Set off on an unforgettable journey to Stromboli island, this volcanic gem where raw natural energy meets the tranquility of island life.
A volcanic gem
The Stromboli volcano, nicknamed the « Lighthouse of the Mediterranean », is one of the few volcanoes in continuous activity for thousands of years. Its regular eruptions, characterized by bursts of glowing lava, offer a unique natural spectacle.

One of the most memorable experiences is the nighttime ascent of the volcano. Accompanied by experienced guides, you can climb the steep slopes and watch incandescent eruptions under a starry sky.
For those who prefer a less demanding experience, boat excursions around the island offer equally impressive views of the volcano spewing fire into the darkness.
Picturesque villages
Stromboli island is home to two main villages, located on opposite sides of the volcano: Stromboli in the northeast and Ginostra in the southwest. The village of Stromboli, with its white houses and narrow streets, offers a peaceful and authentic atmosphere. It is here that you will find the famous San Vincenzo church, an iconic landmark with stunning sea views and a gathering point where hikers preparing for the volcano ascent meet in the late afternoon.
Ginostra, accessible only by boat, is an even more secluded haven of peace where time seems to stand still. The few inhabitants live in harmony with nature, and visitors are warmly welcomed in this corner of paradise.
Black sand beaches
The beaches of Stromboli island are wild and beautifully preserved. The black sand beaches, a result of volcanic activity, contrast magnificently with the crystal-clear waters of the Mediterranean sea.

Ficogrande beach is the most popular, ideal for swimming and sunbathing, while Piscità beach offers more tranquility for a peaceful seaside experience.
The waters around Stromboli island are also perfect for scuba diving and snorkeling, offering a fascinating glimpse into the local marine life.
Where to eat ?
Stromboli island cuisine highlights fresh seafood and Mediterranean flavors. Fish-based dishes are everywhere, with specialties such as « pesce spada alla strombolana » (grilled swordfish) and seafood pasta.
Be sure to try « arancini », fried rice balls filled with various ingredients, as well as local capers used to flavor many dishes. For something sweet, enjoy « cannoli », fried pastry tubes filled with ricotta cream, or « granita », a refreshing iced dessert perfect for cooling down.
Where to stay ?
Stromboli island offers a variety of accommodations, from charming hotels to guesthouses. For an authentic experience, choose a local homestay.
How to get there ?
From Sicily
To reach Stromboli from Sicily, the main ferry services depart from Milazzo, on the island's northern coast, with ferry and hydrofoil services. Messina can also serve as a departure point depending on the season and available connections. If you arrive by air, Catania Airport is a convenient gateway before continuing to Milazzo by road.
The crossing to Stromboli depends on the type of boat, the route, and any stops at other Aeolian Islands. Weather conditions can also disrupt ferry services, particularly when the sea is rough. It is therefore best to check schedules with the operators before departure and allow some flexibility in your itinerary.
From the Other Aeolian Islands
Stromboli can also be reached from the other islands in the archipelago. Lipari, in particular, is a convenient stop for reaching Stromboli, with ferry services connecting the main Aeolian Islands. You can therefore plan an itinerary combining Lipari, Vulcano, Salina, Panarea, and Stromboli.
The port of Stromboli also provides access to Ginostra, the small village on the island's southwestern slope, which can only be reached by sea. Once on Stromboli, most travel is on foot, as the island has no conventional road network.
