Located off the Bay of Quiberon between the southern coast of Brittany and Belle-Île-en-Mer, Houat island, whose name means « duck » in Breton, is part of the Ponant islands, just like its southeastern neighbor, Hoëdic. This small island, with an area of only about 1.1 square miles, is a preserved little slice of paradise, with wild landscapes and an authentic atmosphere.
A complete walking tour of the island
Walking around Houat island is one of the best ways to discover the island. A coastal trail of about 8.7 miles circles the entire island, offering exceptional views of the ocean, cliffs, dunes and the long golden sandy beaches that make Houat island famous. Accessible to all walkers, this loop takes roughly 3.5 hours to complete, though it can take 4 to 5 hours depending on pace and photo stops.

Houat island offers limited accommodation options, with a few guesthouses and a campsite, so it is recommended to book in advance.
How to get there ?
Houat island is accessible by boat from Quiberon, with a crossing time of about 45 minutes, or seasonally from nearby ports in Locmariaquer, Port-Navalo, Vannes or Le Croisic.
