The Maldives — literally a chain of islands — are located in the Indian ocean, southwest off the southern tip of India and the island of Sri Lanka. The entire atoll system stretches over more than 500 miles from north to south and about 80 miles from east to west.

International flights
The Maldives are mainly accessible via Velana International Airport in Malé, located on Hulhulé island. Several airlines offer direct or connecting flights from Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. From the airport, it is possible to reach the different atolls and resorts via domestic flights, seaplanes, or speedboat transfers.
