Between the turquoise waters of Biscayne Bay and the shimmering skyscrapers of Downtown Miami lie several artificial islands that perfectly embody the ultimate Floridian dream: luxurious villas, massive yachts and palm trees lined up like a movie set. These private islands, known as the « Celebrity islands », have for decades attracted international stars, billionaires and artists seeking privacy under the Miami sun.

Star island: the most famous of them all
You can't talk about the celebrity islands without mentioning Star Island, the most iconic of them all. Connected to the mainland by the MacArthur Causeway, this luxurious enclave is home to some of the most expensive properties in the United States.

The residents? A true who's who of show business:
  • Gloria Estefan, Miami's iconic singer, has owned a villa here since the 1990s.
  • Shaquille O'Neal, P. Diddy, Jennifer Lopez and even Madonna have, at one time or another, owned or rented a home on the island.
Access is strictly reserved for residents, but curious visitors can admire the facades and lush gardens during a sightseeing cruise departing from Bayside Marketplace.
Palm and Hibiscus islands: where history meets glamour
Connected to Miami Beach by elevated roads, Palm island and Hibiscus island combine historic charm with modern prestige. In the 1930s, Palm Island was home to the famous villa of gangster Al Capone, who found refuge there during Prohibition. Today, the area hosts contemporary residences belonging to television and sports stars.
Hibiscus Island, its neighbor, is known for its Art Deco villas, tropical gardens and exclusive parties held away from prying eyes.
Fisher island: Luxury in Complete Privacy
Farther south, Fisher island is a world of its own. Accessible only by private ferry, this island is renowned as one of the wealthiest places in the United States.

Here, no flashy houses or rowdy parties: discretion and refinement take center stage. The residents, including magnates, celebrities and even some royalty, enjoy a private club, a seaside golf course and a five-star spa with panoramic ocean views.
How to explore the celebrity islands
Even though most of these islands are closed to the public, there are several ways to enjoy them:
  • Guided cruise « Millionaire's Row »: a classic in Miami. In an hour and a half, you sail among the islands while learning juicy anecdotes about celebrity residences. You also see the Port of Miami with its XXL cruise ships and enjoy breathtaking views of the Miami skyline from Biscayne Bay.
  • Private yacht rental: for a VIP experience with a skipper and champagne on board.
  • Helicopter tour: a spectacular view of Biscayne Bay, Miami Beach and the islands lined up like pearls on the water.

The common sea fan
The common sea fan, is a type of soft coral found in the warm, shallow waters of the Caribbean and the western Atlantic ocean. It grows in wide, fan-shaped forms that sway gently with the ocean currents, helping it catch tiny food particles drifting by. Its beautiful purple branches are covered by a thin living tissue that hosts tiny algae, which provide much of the coral's energy through sunlight.

The leopard blenny
The leopard blenny is a small reef fish from the Indo-Pacific ocean. It is easily recognized by its spotted coloration, which resembles that of a leopard. It lives on shallow coral reefs, feeds mainly on algae and polyps and skillfully camouflages among the corals to avoid predators.
