On Florida's east coast, along the Atlantic Ocean, Cape Canaveral sparks dreams of space exploration and unspoiled nature. Located less than an hour's drive from the city of Orlando, this little slice of paradise, often overshadowed by its more famous neighbors, is nonetheless a fascinating destination for the curious, families and lovers of wide open spaces.
Following in the footsteps of the stars at the Kennedy Space Center
It's impossible to talk about Cape Canaveral without mentioning the Kennedy Space Center, one of the most iconic space sites in the world. This is where the Apollo 11 astronauts launched from and even today, it remains a departure point for missions to the International Space Station.
Visiting the Kennedy Space Center means diving into the history of American space exploration: lunar modules, astronaut suits, giant rockets… And for the lucky few, it's even possible to witness a live rocket launch, an unforgettable experience that sends a thrill across the entire beach.
Cocoa Beach, the laid-back soul of the space coast
Just minutes from Cape Canaveral, Cocoa Beach embodies Florida's laid-back spirit. This seaside resort is famous for its relaxed vibe, perfect surfing waves and its iconic pier, the Cocoa Beach Pier, which stretches into the ocean like an open invitation to unwind.
Surfers gather there at sunrise and families stroll through in the evening, enjoying homemade ice cream, seafood restaurants and blazing sunsets. A stop at the Ron Jon Surf Shop, open 24/7, is a must to dive into the local surf culture.
Wild nature and outdoor getaways
Cape Canaveral isn't just about rockets, the region is also home to an abundance of nature reserves and unspoiled coastal landscapes. The Canaveral National Seashore, a vast protected area along the ocean, is one of Florida's last remaining wild beaches. Here, you won't find towering buildings or rows of beach umbrellas, but miles of white sand, rolling dunes and exceptional biodiversity.

Wildlife enthusiasts can spot sea turtles, dolphins and a variety of migratory birds here. The nearby Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge is another natural sanctuary where you can explore peaceful trails, kayak at sunset, or photograph birds and alligators basking in the sun in their natural habitat.

The must-sees
The best time to visit Cape Canaveral is from November to April, when the temperatures are pleasant, humidity is lower and hurricane risks are nearly nonexistent, ideal conditions for enjoying both the beaches and rocket launches.
The Kennedy Space Center
A guided tour of the Kennedy Space Center will immerse you in the world of space exploration and you'll have the chance to discover the rocket launch pads, including that of the space shuttle.

How to get there ?
Cape Canaveral is about a 45-minute drive from the city of Orlando, with its international airport (MCO) being the closest for air travel.
Cape Canaveral is a surprising destination where the magic of space meets the raw beauty of nature. It's a place where you can spend the morning exploring the mysteries of the universe, the afternoon sunbathing on a nearly deserted beach and the evening stargazing as the stars sparkle above the ocean.

The common sea fan
The common sea fan, is a type of soft coral found in the warm, shallow waters of the Caribbean and the western Atlantic ocean. It grows in wide, fan-shaped forms that sway gently with the ocean currents, helping it catch tiny food particles drifting by. Its beautiful purple branches are covered by a thin living tissue that hosts tiny algae, which provide much of the coral's energy through sunlight.
